The reserve is located in Maputaland. It is situated in one of the most attractive and valuable conservancy areas in Southern Africa on the Kwazulu Natal Coast, known as the Elephant Coast.  It is only 3 hours north of Durban with easy road access and 30 kilometres north of Hluhluwe.  It is in close proximity to the greater St Lucia Wetland Park and the Hluhluwe/Umfolosi Game Reserve..

The total area is currently 1214 hectares with 50 shareholder sites situated on an elevated central plateau of the Ubombo mountains. Our neighbours are Mkuze Game Reserve, Munyawana Game Reserve (which includes Pinda & Zuka), Sungalwane & Bayala Game Reserves and the Ngwenya Tribal Authority.

With its elevated position the reserve has extensive views of northern Zululand and benefits from year round breezes to counter the warmer climate. 


Kube Yini is stocked with a wide spectrum of game – rhino, giraffe, zebra, kudu, wildebeest, impala, nyala, reedbuck, suni, duiker.  It is also home to leopard, hyena, jackals, baboon, vervet monkeys, warthog, and the smaller animals etc.  There are 130 –150 indigenous trees and some 250 bird species have been recorded to date.

It is a walking reserve with trails but also has an extensive road network.


Kube Yini is a shareblock company with 50 shares and sites.  Each site is serviced with power and water. Over 90% of the sites have been developed with lodges/cottages which have been built in accordance with the reserves building regulations.  The syndication of a share is allowed up to a maximum of five individuals (or couples).

The properties cannot be let to non owners. This ensures that everyone on the reserve has a commitment to the well being of the reserve. i.e. there is no holiday visitor syndrome


The monthly levy is R4500 and covers the running costs and management of the reserve, water and conservation.  Electricity is a separate charge and shareholders are responsible for insurance cover on their building.
The balance sheet is strong with substantial cash reserves.


The onsite management control the day to day running of the reserve and its administration. Laundry, maintenance and cleaning services are available.

The Board of Directors are all owners many of them with a background in conservation


A swimming pool and tennis court are situated at the Club House which has recreational facilities and DSTV.
