Mfula — A River of Stillness, Space, and Soul

Mfula — A River of Stillness, Space, and Soul

Named after the Zulu word for “River”, Mfula rests gently below the Mziki Dam wall, tucked away in the most peaceful and private part of the bush. Surrounded by a grove of ancient, indigenous trees, this haven once served as a large hunting camp — now lovingly transformed into a place of quiet refuge, renewal, and reconnection.

Spread across two full Mziki sites, Mfula offers a wide-open expanse of untouched land where wildlife moves freely, and guests are invited into nature’s rhythm. The lodge and its entertainment areas are woven seamlessly into this natural flow, allowing every moment spent here to feel both grounded and expansive.

When night falls, the magic deepens. Gathered around the generous boma, fires crackling and stars above ablaze, guests listen to the timeless sounds of the bush — the gentle grunts of hippos, the haunting call of the fiery-necked nightjar, the occasional whisper of wind through the trees. Here, stillness isn’t empty — it’s full of life.

By day, world-class game drives and unrivalled birdwatching awaken the senses. By night, heartfelt conversations and laughter drift from the open-plan lounge and kitchen, spaces beautifully designed to blend into the natural landscape. Mfula is not a lodge that sits on the land — it lives with it.

The camp features seven private, en-suite rooms, each just a short walk from the shared living areas. Approved to host up to 21 guests, Mfula offers space not just in numbers, but in spirit — a place where extended families, old friends, and new stories find room to unfold.

Whether it's an early morning swim, a long lunch at the outdoor bar and lounge, or sundowners shared beside the pool, Mfula invites simple pleasures. A well-equipped gym, a cosy TV room, and a tennis court (well-loved and still in use) offer added comfort for every season of the day.

Behind the scenes, two beloved permanent staff live on-site in dedicated accommodation, keeping the lodge warm, clean, and welcoming. A walk-in fridge/freezer, a full laundry, and two well-maintained game viewing vehicles make life easy, so you can focus on what matters: presence, peace, and people.

Everything is built on a single level, making it wonderfully wheelchair-friendly — another gentle detail that shows how Mfula truly welcomes all.

Mfula is part of the Mziki Private Reserve, itself a treasured piece of the greater Munyawana/Phinda ecosystem. Shareholders enjoy over 240 hectares of exclusive traversing on Mziki, plus an additional 2,200 hectares across the neighbouring farms of Fagolweni and Ntabankosi (Zuka). Mziki is independently managed, with a strong focus on security and conservation, ensuring peace of mind for both your investment and the wildlife it protects.

For those wishing to share the gift of Mfula with others, the lodge can be divided into three fractional ownership shares — an ideal opportunity for like-minded families to co-own a place where hearts are nourished and wild memories are made.
